Cambodian dolphin protector dies after patrol boat capsizes
PHNOM PENH, July 26 — A traditionalist of fundamentally imperiled Mekong freshwater dolphins had suffocated as two others got harmed when their watch vessel sank amid a tempest in eastern Cambodia, a protectionist bunch said in an announcement on Tuesday.
Le Sokleng, 32, a stream watchman of the Cambodia's Fisheries Administration, kicked the bucket on Sunday night in a major tempest on the Mekong River, only 10 km far from a dolphin pool in Kratie territory, the World Wildlife Fund-Cambodia (WWF-Cambodia), which works with the Fisheries Administration to protect the dolphins, said the announcement.
"The body was discovered toward the beginning of today (Tuesday) 1 km far from where the mischance happened, following a day hunting down him," the announcement said.
"We express our most profound sympathies to his family. He was a saint, battling for the waterway dolphins and for Cambodia' s normal fortunes," it said.
As indicated by the announcement, two of his associates, that were on the same pontoon, got genuinely harmed.
Dolphin territories are in a 180-km-ensured range along the Mekong River in eastern Cambodia's Stung Treng and Kratie areas.
As indicated by a WWF overview a year ago, there are around 80 dolphins in the ensured region.
